                     CANIDATE FILING FOR THE JUNE 2 PRIMARY

  The 2025 Legislature passed HB 207, which changes the filing deadlines and write-in rules for state and local candidates.        The upcoming primary election is impacted.

  Under this bill, the candidate filing window is 105 days to 90 days before the primary.  The primary is June 2, 2026.                  Candidate filing for state and local offices opens February 17, 2026 at 8:00 am and closes March 4, 2026 at 5:00 pm 

  Additionally, the deadline for write-in candidates is 90 days before the election.  For the primary, that deadline is March 4,    2026.

  Candidates can withdraw their filing any time before March 4, 2026.

  Judith Basin is a non-partisan county; which means if there are (2) or less candidates per office that office will not be on          the ballot for voters’ consideration until the November 3rd General Election.

  Candidate qualifications:

               *Commissioner must live within Commissioner District #1; Judith Basin Co. resident for 2 years, 18 years old and a                     registered voter.

               *County Attorney must have a law degree (at the time of taking office), 18 years old & registered voter

               *All other offices qualifications county residents, 18 years old & registered voter.

  Local office candidates must file with the JB County Election Administration/pay filing fee and register candidacy with the        Commissioner of Political Practices.  PLEASE NOTE THE FILING DATES ABOVE; VERY SMALL WINDOW.
