Central Montana Environmental Health

Environmental Health is a branch of public health that focuses on preventing illnesses and injuries associated with the environments people work and live in. Environmental Health includes food safety, water quality, air quality, sanitation and hygiene, and other programs that promote a healthy environment.
Environmental Health (EH) oversees multiple programs that are designed to protect the health of our community.   EH licenses, inspects, enforces rules, and provides education for programs regulated by the Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS), such as:
  • Food Service Establishments (Restaurants, Bars, Food Trucks, Sr. Centers, etc.)
  • Public Accommodations (Hotels & Motels, Bed & Breakfasts, and Tourist Homes)
  • Body Art Establishments (Tattoos, Piercings, Cosmetic Tattoos, Microblading)
  • Trailer Courts,
  • Campgrounds, Youth Camps, and Work Camps, RV Parks
  • Daycare Centers and Group Homes 
EH permits, inspects, monitors, enforces rules, and provides resources for programs regulated by the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), such as:

          • Subsurface Wastewater Treatment Systems (Septic Systems)
          • Subdivisions
          • Superfund Sites
          • Water Quality
